Lam Sao Wa learned photography since his thirties. He is a Honorary Member of the Macau Photographers Association and a member of Macau Salon Photography Association, and was awarded the APSM and the APSSM of the above associations respectively. In addition, he possesses membership of several photography associations in Mainland. Having worked for Tai Chung Pou and the Government Information Bureau before, Lam currently is the photographer of the Cultural Institute. His works have been displayed in various exhibitions in Macau, Hong Kong and Mainland. He held a solo exhibition in August 1998 and attended a three-people joint exhibition in December 1999. Lam won over thousand prizes in different photography contests, such as the Top Ten Outstanding and Top Ten Excellency awards in the National Top Ten Photography Annual Competition, 1^st place in Pearl River Delta Top Ten Photography Annual Competition, Gold & Bronze medal of the Hong Kong International Salon, Bronze Medal in the XVIII National Photography, etc.
