Missing Lam Kan

Visit our online gallery and get to know some of Lam Kan’s best works. In a video lecture this famous Macau artist explains the art of Chinese seal carving.

Born in Macau in 1923, famous calligrapher and seal carver Lam Kan -originally called Song Si - passed away at Xinhui, in Guangdong province, on October 23, 2004.

Lam had engaged in lecturing for over 50 years and devoted himself entirely to promotion of literary and artistic creations. In addition to his distinguished achievements on calligraphy, seal carving and poetry, he was also an active participant in many social charitable activities.

His works of paintings, calligraphy and seal cuttings possess both traditional and modern elements. Also a talented poet, Lam often saw his work selected for national calligraphy and seal cutting exhibitions.

Lam was the director of the Xiling Seal Society, the board director and president of several painting and calligraphy associations in Macau and an inviting professor for art institutes in Macau and Mainland China.
